Installing a water filter

Get better tasting water

Sick of chlorine taste, cloudy water, or buying bottled?

Sydney’s tap water is treated to be safe, but “safe” and “pleasant” aren’t the same thing. If your water tastes like a swimming pool, leaves chalky residue on the kettle, or you’ve quietly started buying bottled water for the family, a filter fixes the cause rather than the symptom. You might be dealing with:

  • Chlorine taste and smell that makes water and tea taste off
  • Sediment or cloudiness, especially after mains work in your street
  • Scale build-up wrecking kettles, showerheads, and appliances
  • A filter you bought online that’s been sitting in the box because you’re not sure you can fit it yourself
  • An old filter that’s leaking, slow, or hasn’t been serviced in years

You shouldn’t have to become a plumbing expert to drink clean water. That’s our job.

Filter Types

Which water filter system is right for you?

Not sure what you need? You’re not alone, it’s the question we get most. Here’s the plain-English version, with no pressure to buy the biggest system on the shelf.

Under Sink Water Filter

Under-sink water filters

The most popular choice for drinking water. A cartridge (or multi-stage) unit fits neatly inside your kitchen cabinet and feeds a dedicated filtered tap or your existing mixer. Great for removing chlorine taste, sediment, and many contaminants, without taking up bench space. Best for: households that mainly want better drinking and cooking water.

Whole-house water filter

Whole-house (point-of-entry) filtration

Installed where the mains enters your property, so every tap, shower, and appliance gets filtered water. Protects your plumbing and appliances from sediment and scale, and is ideal for older Sydney homes or properties on bore/rainwater. Best for: whole-of-home water quality and appliance protection.

Reverse Osmosis Water Filter

Reverse osmosis (RO) systems

The most thorough filtration available for drinking water, RO strips out the widest range of dissolved contaminants for exceptionally pure water. Needs a drain connection and a little under-sink space. Best for: households wanting the highest level of drinking-water purity.

Why a water filter install is a licensed plumber’s job

Here’s the bit the filter retailers don’t tell you: anything that connects to your mains water supply is plumbing work, and in NSW that means it needs a licensed plumber. A water filter teed into your cold-water line, a whole-house unit at your point of entry, or a reverse osmosis system with a drain connection all involve pressurised mains, potential backflow risk, and connections that have to be watertight and compliant.

Get it wrong and you’re looking at a slow leak inside a cabinet, water damage, voided product warranties, or, worst case, a cross-connection that compromises your drinking water. Get it right and you forget it’s even there. When Ready Set Plumb installs your filter, you get:

  • A licensed plumber doing the connection, not a handyman or a delivery driver
  • The right isolation valves and fittings so future filter changes take minutes, not a callout
  • Backflow and compliance handled as standard
  • A tidy, accessible install you can actually service later
  • $20M public liability insurance behind every job, and our Lifetime Labour Guarantee on the workmanship

Ready for clean drinking water?

Here’s exactly what happens when you call

You don’t want a sales pitch, you want clean water on tap. No call-out fee to come and look, and a fixed price before any work starts.

Anything connected to your mains carries risk, and you’re trusting someone in your kitchen. Two things protect you. Our Lifetime Labour Guarantee means if an install we’ve carried out ever leaks or fails, we come back and put it right at no cost to you. We also carry $20 million in public liability insurance, so if anything’s damaged on the job, you’re covered. And we talk you through exactly which system suits your home, the cartridge, the fittings, the filtered tap, before we connect a thing, so you’re never upsold something you haven’t seen and approved.

Our Minimum Standards

No boot prints, no mess, no exceptions

Clean uniforms. Clean boots. Drop sheets down before we start. Tools, packaging, and offcuts out with us when we leave. If we need to open a wall or ceiling, we’ll tell you first and leave the area tidy.

  • Drop sheets laid before any work begins
  • Shoe covers worn inside your home
  • All debris, offcuts, and packaging removed when we leave
  • Work area left clean and tidy, not “tradie tidy,” actually tidy
  • Any access to walls, ceilings, or other areas discussed with you before we touch them
  • A walkthrough of the completed work before we pack up

You won’t find boot prints on your tiles or copper shavings in your bath. That’s not a bonus we charge for. It’s the minimum standard.

FAQ

Water Filter Installation Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to the things people ask us most when wanting to purify their water.

Yes, in NSW, any water filter that connects to your mains supply must be installed by a licensed plumber. This includes under-sink, whole-house, and reverse osmosis systems. A licensed install protects your warranty, prevents leaks and backflow, and keeps your drinking water compliant. Ready Set Plumb is fully licensed and insured for this work across Sydney.
The cost depends on the system type and your setup, an under-sink cartridge is a smaller job than a whole-house unit. Ready Set Plumb gives every customer a fixed, upfront price before any work begins, so you know the cost in advance.

Yes. Ready Set Plumb installs systems you’ve purchased yourself, online, from Bunnings, or from a specialist supplier, with the same licensed workmanship and Lifetime Labour Guarantee as a supplied-and-installed system.

An under-sink filter treats water at one tap, usually for drinking and cooking. A whole-house (point-of-entry) filter treats every tap, shower, and appliance in the home, protecting your plumbing from sediment and scale. Ready Set Plumb installs both and will advise which suits your home.
Filter cartridges typically need replacing every six to twelve months depending on the system and your water use. Ready Set Plumb installs systems with proper isolation valves so cartridge changes are quick, and we can handle servicing for you.
